Student Life |
|
You will find your training at Northeast Tech to be
different than what you may have expected. Since our
goal is to teach you a skill and make you job ready,
many of our programs are run as places of business to
give you as much of a sense of actually being on the job
as possible. You are treated as an employee would be
treated and are expected to perform up to industry
standards in terms of job performance and professional
conduct. Many programs do “live work” which means you
will be actually working on customers’ vehicles or
performing professional services for them. Many times
you will work alone; many times you will work with a
partner or a part of a team. The skills and habits you
develop here can greatly benefit you later when
on-the-job in the real world, and can lead to
advancement, promotion, and increased pay. |

 |
Attendance Policy |
|
Much of the training you will receive at Northeast Tech
is “hands-on” and, if missed, cannot be made up with
makeup assignments. Therefore, regular attendance is
very important, much like being at work everyday is
important to your employer. High School students
enrolled at Northeast Tech will be expected to be at
Northeast when it is in session regardless of whether
their home school is in session or not. |
 |
Re-Admission |
|
Any student dropped from Northeast Tech due to grades or
non-attendance may re-apply to the Director of Student
Services after being out one full semester. After
viewing the student’s record, the director may re-admit
the student. If re-admitted, he/she will be on probation
for the first 9 weeks of the semester. At the end of the
probation period, grades and attendance will be checked.
If the student has maintained a “C” average and been in
attendance according to the attendance policy, he/she
will be considered to be in good standing and eligible
for continued enrollment with no additional requirements
imposed. |
 |
Career Guidance |
A wide range of counseling services are available at
each campus. Counselors work with students on program
selection, interpersonal values to attain skill
development, and development of employability skills.
They also provide group and individual counseling and
referral to appropriate community agencies in crisis
situations. Career guidance is the systematic education
of students in the knowledge, attitudes and skills that
will be
required of them at future points in the selection and
planning of their educational programs while preparing
them for work.
Career Guidance helps
students learn about their interest, abilities, work
values, and aspirations. It gives students opportunities
to investigate occupations, make decisions, and help
them select courses that will prepare them for
additional education and training or employment after
graduation from high school. Career guidance services
are available through the Carl Perkins Counseling
Cooperative between local school districts and Northeast
Technology Center. Funding is provided by the Carl
Perkins Vocational Technology Act of 1990. |
 |
Academic Resource
Center (ARC) |
|
For the student who wants to advance and better himself
or herself, the ARC offers many computer programs and
personalized instruction designed to enable the student
to attain entry-level basic skills or to advance in
his/her chosen field of expertise. Through self-paced,
customized programs, the computer opens up the world to
the student in areas such as math and science, language,
basic competencies, computer education, pre-employment
and work maturity skills, resume writing, job
application procedures and personal finance. Visits to
the ARC are scheduled as a regular part of the course
work at Northeast Technology Center.
The ARC is also available
in the evening for industry and community use. Various
programs can be adapted for employees to use in the job
setting. Rates and scheduling information may be
obtained by calling Northeast Tech. |
 |
Job Placement |
|
Throughout your training we invite you to take advantage
of our job placement and support services. As part of
our curriculum you will learn valuable skills in
developing employability strategies. You will have
opportunities to enhance your job seeking skills in the
classroom and the Educational Enhancement Center.
Involvement in student organizations will prepare you in
job interviewing skills and interpersonal
communications. Northeast Technology Center’s services
to our students do not stop when the training experience
is completed. Our Counselors, Education Enhancement
Center, personnel and instructors are here to serve you
now and anytime in the future as needed for job support. |
