New Cooperative Alliance Agreements will allow high school and adult students to receive college credit simultaneously at Northeast Technology Center and apply that credit toward an Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree.

FAQ

What is a Cooperative Alliance Agreement?
Allows high school and adult students to receive college credit simultaneously while attending Northeast Technology Center and apply that credit toward an Associate in Applied Science (AAS) degree at: Connors State College, NEO A&M College, OSU-Okmulgee, or Rogers State University.  While there will be an $8.00 per credit hour fee for these courses, students will pay no tuition for these credit hours.


What colleges are in the new Cooperative Alliance?

Colleges participating under the Alliance with NTC are Connors State College, NEO A&M College, OSU-Okmulgee, and Rogers State University.  The number of college credit hours granted varies from college and technical program.

*Practical Nursing-Earn credit upon completion of NTC program to enter into the Fast Track Nursing program at NEO A&M.

How many college credit hours can a NTC student earn?

The number of college credit hours granted varies from college and technical program. Credits


How can a high school student earn college credit at NTC? 

High School Student must:

  1. Enroll in a technical program with an Alliance Agreement;

  2. Be a Junior or Senior;

  3. Submit a Parent Statement of Understanding form. 

High School students must meet one of the following criteria while at NTC:

  1. A cumulative grade point average of 2.5; or

  2. A composite score of 15 on the Plan Test taken during the sophomore year; or

  3. A composite ACT score of 19. 

Adult Students:

  1. Enroll in a technical program with an Alliance Agreement;

  2. Submit a Cooperative Alliance Co-Enrollment form to the college.


What are the costs for college credit at NTC?

College tuition is waived, but there will be an $8.00 per credit hour fee assessed for the college credit that will be granted by the participating college.


Who invoices the student for the fees owed?

Students will be invoiced directly from the college.  It will be the student’s responsibility to remit payment to the college by the deadline date set by the college.


How does the student pay for the fees?

High School students who meet one of the ACT Fee Waiver criteria will be able to have their college fees waived. Students are required to provide documentation to NTC. Adult students can use their Financial Aid refund to pay fees.


What is a Parent Statement of Understanding form?

A document that has to be signed by a parent/guardian, the student, and NTC before co-enrolling with a participating college.


What is a college credit hour?

A credit hour is how many hours a student is in class each week.  For example, if a student is enrolled in a three credit hour college math course, that math course meets for three hours each week.


What is co-enrollment?

NTC students may receive college credit for approved NTC program simultaneously while attending NTC with a participating post-secondary institution.


Why enroll with a college while at NTC?

  • Avoid course duplication from high school to college.

  • Shorten the time needed to earn a college degree.

  • Earn college credit for approved NTC courses.

  • Transition easily from high school to college to career.

  • Save on college expenses.

Can a home schooled student co-enroll?

Home schooled students can earn college credit as long as they are a day-time NTC student.  Same guidelines apply for home schooled NTC students as set forth for all NTC co-enrolled students.


What is concurrent enrollment?

A high school junior or senior may be enrolled in collegiate level courses provided he or she meets the requirements set forth on the Concurrent Enrollment Form available from the high school counselor.  All concurrent students must submit ACT scores.


How does a student enroll in college to complete degree requirements?

It is the student’s responsibility to meet requirements for college admission and to enroll in remaining college courses required for degree to be granted.  A student will need to make an appointment to meet with a college advisor to complete enrollment process.


How does a student transfer to another college?

Request all transcripts from previous institutions, consult an academic advisor at the receiving institution, contact the financial aid office at the receiving institution, and submit application for admissions.


Will a student’s courses transfer from one college to another college?

Students should consult the college or university to which they plan to transfer to have their transcript reviewed to confirm what courses will be accepted.


What is a Program of Study?

Selection of a degree program which is consistent with the objectives of the student.  Each degree has certain general education requirements and specific requirements for each emphasis of study.


What is an Associate in Applied Science degree (A.A.S.)?

This is a two-year degree designed to lead an individual directly to employment in a specific career.  Although the objective of this degree is to enhance employment opportunities, some bachelor’s degree (four-year) institutions have developed upper-division programs to recognize the A.A.S. degree for transfer purposes.  Students that want to pursue a Bachelor’s degree should verify the ability to transfer the A.A.S. with that institution.


What is an Associate of Arts degree?

This is a two-year degree designed for a student to transfer to a Bachelor’s program.  Students who complete requirements with an emphasis in liberal arts, humanities, social sciences, art or business subject area are awarded this degree.


What is an Associate of Science degree?

This is a two-year degree designed for a student to transfer to a Bachelor’s program.  Students who complete requirements with an emphasis in math, the sciences or pre-engineering are awarded this degree.


What is a Bachelor in Technology degree?

This is a four-year degree in Applied Technology.  Students will have an emphasis in a technical program of study.


How does a student request a college transcript?

Most institutions require a request in writing, and some may require that a student pay a fee.  Check with the registrar’s office at the sending institution to find out their process.


How and when does a student apply for Financial Aid?

Application for financial aid can be made by submitting the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).  The FAFSA should be processed by February 14th to be considered for aid from all available programs for the following fall semester.  Application may be made online at www.fafsa.ed.gov or by obtaining an application from the Financial Aid Office at any college, high school counselor, or at NTC.


What is Oklahoma Higher Learning Access Program (OHLAP)?

OHLAP is an Oklahoma State funded program that will pay the college tuition to any college in the State of Oklahoma for students whose parents total yearly income is not more than $50,000.00.  A student must sign up by 10th grade.  To apply, students can visit their school counselor or go to www.okhighered.org/ohlap. OHLAP can not be used to pay the $8.00 per credit hour alliance co-enrollment fee for NTC courses since OHLAP is used for tuition only.


What is the ACT?

Test required by colleges and universities to evaluate an applicant’s academic skills and abilities.  Test dates and other information regarding the ACT can be found at www.act.org.


What is a transcript?

Official document, issued by a high school or institution, with student information that is a complete and accurate reflection of a student’s academic career.

Are there other colleges that offer credit to NTC students?

NTC also has agreements with Coffeyville Community College, Crowder College, Labette Community College (Nursing only), Missouri Southern State University, Oklahoma University-Tulsa (Nursing only), and Oklahoma Wesleyan University.  Northeastern State University may accept transcribed credit hours from all participating colleges in approved NTC programs as Advanced Standing Credit into NSU’s Bachelor of Technology degree program.

The following colleges do not abide by the Alliance guidelines.
