Program Overview

The interest of water and water sports has drawn millions of Americans into recreational boating. The result and need creates a high demand for marine mechanics and marine mechanic technicians. The Marine Power Technology Program at Northeast Technology Center in Afton Oklahoma provides the most advanced marine mechanic training to start your successful career in the marine industry. With the support and recognized industry leaders in marine manufacturing: Mercury Marine, Evinrude, Yamaha you can be trained to become a successful marine mechanic and launch your new career in 1050 hours of training. The marine mechanic school at NTC may be known elsewhere as the Outboard Motor Repair or Marine Power, our course takes training to a new level.

The Marine Power Technology program's goal is to provide those people interested in the marine field the knowledge, skills and competencies required to obtain a position as a marine service technician, in the parts or warranty department, a dock hand or boat rigger at a marine service center or one of the many surrounding lakes. Students will receive hands-on training in all areas of servicing boats, boat engine testing, diagnosing and repair of outboard motors, stern-drive and inboard motor power packages. Students will also receive training on the unique aspects of the marine industry such as boat marine terminology, boat classification, safe boat handling, boat dockside services, and boat parts and warranty information.
 
This 1050-hour program provides the students with the basic skills and competencies to repair boats that industry requires in an entry level service technician as well as preparing the students for the certification courses offered by the engine and boat manufacturers. A boat mechanic is utilized in areas with aquatic and lake recreation areas.

The Marine Power Technology Program instructor is a certified Master Outboard & Stern Drive Technician. With over 23 years of experience in marine technology he will teach skills utilized by industry. You will gain the skills needed with the 1050 hours of hands on training and can earn credits towards industry certification in the marine industry.
