Kansas Fall Short-Term Evening Class Descriptions

Class

Description

1 Beginning Welding Students will be taught the proper methods including a safety course to begin to weld
2 Advanced Welding Students who have basic knowledge of welding may enroll to further their skill level.  Instruction will be based on student’s ability and desire within the welding field. 
3 Basic Knife Making Instruction will include safety and operation of grinders, buffers, and other tools, metal types and properties, shape and forming metals, treating, carving and polishing handles.
4 Pocket Knife Making Students will apply the same skills as knife making, but will be using a project kit that includes a folding blade.
5 Small Engine Repair Class Schedule will include review of Engine Construction, fuel system components, Carburetor theory and construction, fuel system and carburetor trouble shooting, review of fuel system, ignition system, point system, electronic system, review of ignition system and ignition system maintenance and trouble shooting, basic electrical Theory, electrical system maintenance and trouble shooting, starting system, charging system, review and types of lubrication systems and purpose of lubrication systems, oil specifications, 20 hours shop time. Students will learn how to maintain, diagnose and repair mowers, weed eaters, chainsaws etc.
6 Residential Wiring Instruction will include safety practices, simple and complex circuitry in residential construction.
7 Microsoft PowerPoint Students will learn the menus and toolbars in the PowerPoint application window, create text slides, use the drawing toolbar, create a PowerPoint table, use the Microsoft clip organizer, design templates, create speaker notes and produce a slide show. This class is a very versatile tool that can be used in a variety of settings from corporate presentations, weddings, funerals, class graduations and many more events.
8 Microsoft PowerPoint Intermediate This is a continuation of beginning MS PowerPoint.  New students may enroll if they have a basic knowledge of the program and feel ready to advance their skills.  The class is designed to enhance learned skills to enable students to make even more creative and impressive presentations.
9 Microsoft Access Students will learn the basics of operating the Micro Soft Access program including;  database and table creation, form making, records storing, query and report making and repair and modification of reports, database and tables.
10 Microsoft Access Intermediate This is a continuation of beginning MS Access.  New Students may enroll if they have a basic working knowledge of the program and feel ready to advance their skills.  The class will cover intermediate Query, Report, Data Access, techniques.  Additional features covered are adding a lookup field to a table, defining an input mask for a field, viewing object dependencies, Exporting an Access Datasheet to MS Office Excel and using the Database Wizard.
11 Microsoft Excel Students will learn the basics of operating the MS Excel program.
12 Microsoft Excel Intermediate This is continuation of skill building from the beginning class.  New students may enroll if they have a basic knowledge of the program and feel ready to advance their skills.   This class will enable students to advance their productivity in operating the MS Excel program and give them operational practice in creating and modifying worksheets.
13 Microsoft Word Students will also be exposed to Microsoft Word; creating, editing, formatting a document, working with multiple sections, using Word’s writing & drawing tools.
14 Microsoft Word Intermediate This is a continuation of skill building from the beginning class.  New students may enroll if they have a basic knowledge of the program and feel ready to advance their skills.  The class will give students the knowledge and practice to do intermediate editing, formatting, set up a table, set up multiple-column documents, create charts and diagrams, teach styles produce a report and collaborate with other word users. The final chapter covers additional intermediate word features such as inserting a picture, drawing, hyperlink, or splitting or opening a new document window.
15 QuickBooks Learn to use the simplest form of accounting for small business owners. The basic accounting principles will be introduced to the students Included in instruction will be how to set up data quickly with lists, preparing inventory lists, invoicing, enter and pay bills, track time and job cost accurately, work with bank accounts, create reports, graphs, track and pay sales tax and complete payroll. Students will also learn to track the most profitable customers and activities.
16 Computer Repair Instruction includes trouble shooting, maintenance and repair of computer system and equipment.
17 A+ Certification Students will work toward the knowledge needed to test and become A+ Certified.  Skills taught will include hands on trouble shooting, repair/replacement of computer components and on-line curriculum based on the direction of the instructor.  Testing information is included and students may continue taking the class until they feel ready to test.  The testing fee is separate and information regarding the test will be a part of the curriculum.
18 Intro to Computers/Intro Microsoft Word Students will learn the basics of computer use as well as set up and maintenance of equipment. Students will also be exposed to Microsoft Word; creating, editing, formatting a document, working with multiple sections, using Word’s writing & drawing tools.
19 Intro to Internet/Intro to E-mail Students will learn how to access the Internet and surf the web. Students will learn to go online and send and/or receive email.

ACT Enhancement

Students will get math and language arts instruction to help them prepare for the ACT test.  The class will be 5 sessions of 3 hours each.
21 Career & College Search Students will be given computer aided instruction in areas of choice.
22 Employment Assessment Testing Students will be given computer aided instruction in areas of choice.
23 Reading Tutorial Students will be given computer aided instruction in areas of choice.
24 Advanced Math Students will be given computer aided instruction in areas of choice.
25 English Tutorial Students will be given computer aided instruction in areas of choice.
26 Spelling Tutorial Students will be given computer aided instruction in areas of choice.
27 Science Tutorial Students will be given computer aided instruction in areas of choice.
28 Social Studies Tutorial Students will be given computer aided instruction in areas of choice.
29 ACT/SAT Prep This is a hand on tutoring class for all ages, students will be able to receive help in Reading, Advanced Math, English, Spelling, Science, Social Studies, ACT/SAT Prep, Career and College Search and Employment Assessment Testing, GED Class, Para-Prep (OGET). Students under the age of 16 years old must be attended by an adult.
30 English as a Second Language-ESL This class is for Hispanic people wishing to learn English.
31 Basic Real Estate Covers the basic Oklahoma Real Estate laws and principles and is designed to prepare you for the state licensing examination. After 90 hours of  classroom instruction, a three-hour examination is given which simulates the licensing test given by the Oklahoma Real Estate Commission.
32 Unarmed Security Guard Phase I & II Training to become certified as an unarmed security guard.
33 Home Inspection The required 50 hour course to prepare students to take the state certification test.
34 Bus Driver Training The required driver training for drivers in Oklahoma Schools
35 Health Providers CPR Students receive instruction on administering CPR within the health field.
36 CNA Students attend lecture, hands on training and clinical instruction to become a certified nurses aid.
37 CNA Students attend lecture, hands on training and clinical instruction to become a certified nurses aid.
38 CNA Students attend lecture, hands on training and clinical instruction to become a certified nurses aid.
39 CNA Students attend lecture, hands on training and clinical instruction to become a certified nurses aid.
40 CNA Students attend lecture, hands on training and clinical instruction to become a certified nurses aid.
41 Medical Terminology Medical vocabulary study for students preparing to enter the medical field.
42 Medical Terminology Medical vocabulary study for students preparing to enter the medical field.
43 Medical Terminology Medical vocabulary study for students preparing to enter the medical field.
44 Dosage Calculation Class will lay a framework of knowledge about basic math skills and work toward the use of these skills to facilitate accurate calculations of drug dosages.
45 CMA This course if for Certified Nurse Aide.  A medication aide is allowed to perform the administration of medication in the following setting: long-term care facilities, facilities for the developmentally disabled, residential care facilities & adult day care facilities. After completing the course, the student will take the OK Certified Medication Aide State Exam. Prerequisite: C N A
46 Acrylic Painting Well known local artist Diana Shannon, shares the joy of acrylic painting with her class.  Students will be given her technique tips for painting grass, trees, sky, water and her favorite subject old antique buildings of all types.  Her specialties include barns, old water mills, houses and farms.  Diana has been teaching her brand of art for over 15 years and would love to show you how to get started or improve painting with acrylics.
47 Floral Design Got fall fever? Join us in designing beautiful fall floral arrangements with flowers and colors of your choice, the instructor will show you the tricks of the floral shops along with creative new ideas and designs.
48 Basic Genealogy Students will learn to use software and the Internet to search for their ancestry.
49 Advanced Genealogy Students will learn to use software and the Internet to search for their ancestry.
50 Bluegrass I YEEEE HAAA!  This class will get your toes to tapping.  If you have some skill or the desire to develop a skill in the musical world of bluegrass than this class is for you.  From 10 to 25 students playing different bluegrass instruments may enroll to hone their skills and learn from local musician Clayton Moore.  This class is part learning lab and part jam session, but mostly it’s good music and fun.  Some students are regulars and some are new to the class and the blend has always been interesting.  During the year some students are selected to participate in the NTC Bluegrass Band and have played for local charity functions, at church and done a few festivals.
51 Bluegrass II YEEEE HAAA…some more!  This class is the continuation of Bluegrass II and is simply put more of the same.  Come join the fun.
52 Intermediate Guitar If you have a working knowledge of guitar playing but would like to improve your skill level than this class is for you.  Instructor and accomplished guitarist John Paul Elledge takes students to the next level of playing ability.
53 Guitar II Continued instruction in guitar playing that includes chord and lead guitar.
54 Banjo I Vague or no working knowledge of the Banjo.  Starting with the Basic Rolls, Hammer ons, slide, chords & your first song.  May be able to play some but need a better grasp of the fundamentals.  Goals for the class are: being able to play some 1 or 2 songs by the end of the 10 weeks, but not necessarily fast.  Just technically correct.  Class has classroom and working cell groups and one on one with teacher.
55 Banjo II Can play basic songs.  But would like new concepts, back-up, up the neck technique work with other students in cell groups and one on one with teacher and classroom.

Conversational Spanish I The instructor will emphasize the use of listening, speaking, writing and speaking skills as well as teaching cultural concepts related Spanish language through a variety of teaching methods. The focus will be to promote practical, usable communication skills through oral and written practice. Students will engage in activities that enhance listening, speaking, writing and reading skills.
57 Conversational Spanish II Continuation of Conversational Spanish
58 Western Dancing Line Dances such as Electric Slide, Reggae Cowboy, Southside Shuffle, Boot Scooten Boogie, Rita’s Waltz, 2 step, double 2 step, Put your boots on and get ready to break a sweat!! Yee Hah!!
59 Western Dancing II Local Dance legend, Bob Loyd leads the class in sharpening existing skills or teaching new students the steps and popular dances.  Newcomers always Welcome.
60 Watercolors Learn to paint an object to look as closely as possible to the real thing. When finished, some people actually think your painting is a photograph.  
61 Beginning Quilting Instructor Karen Swenson leads students through the basics of quilt making.  Karen will have a project design that will get you started and your ability  will determine how fast and how much you can accomplish in this class.
62 Grant Writing Students will be given instruction in writing for public and private grants.
63 Massage Therapy II Local Massage Therapist Janessa Craig teaches students the art of Massage.  In this section of her curriculum Janessa teaches foot reflexology and lays the groundwork for Massage III.
64 Massage Therapy III This class puts the finishing touch on Massage I & II by incorporating previous learned techniques with the art of the full body massage.
